Deep Learning Indaba 2026 à Lagos

Salut !

Depuis, je me sens extrêmement mieux.

Deep Learning Indaba 2026 in Lagos

Hi!

From August 2 to 7, I attended Deep Learning Indaba 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria.

It was an incredible, unique, and very interesting experience.

Between the language immersion — speaking English 24/7 for seven days —, meeting continental and international AI figures and leaders such as Kate Kallot, Vukosi Marivate, Shamsuddeen Muhammad, and Nelson Ijumba, making many friends, and all the wonderful encounters, I don't know how I would have felt if I hadn't experienced it myself and had only heard about it from someone else.

Presenting my work and receiving feedback

During the poster sessions, I had the opportunity to present my poster on the Multi-Product Vehicle Routing Problem with Change-over Costs.

People from Amini, Kriterion.ai, and many others stopped by and gave me very insightful feedback. It helped me refine my own vision of the project and notice certain aspects I had not seen before.

It always feels good to share your work and receive outside perspectives.

Indaba is not just about geeks

The cultural evening and the closing party… haha!

I had an amazing time and danced like never before. After all, Indaba is not just about geeks. Above all, it is Africa showing up with its culture.

An experience that helped me see things more clearly

Finally, Indaba helped me clarify my thoughts more than I could have imagined.

I arrived with many doubts, the fear of not being good enough, and uncertainties about both my studies and my personal life.

Thanks to the people I met, the conversations we had, and all the work that was presented, I understood that everyone has a place; you just have to dare. And then, there is the sheer variety of possible AI applications… ahaha!

Opportunities exist. They are simply waiting for the boldest people to go after them.

The importance of people who allow you to exist

With Mélène at Deep Learning Indaba 2026

Not to overthink it, but throughout my stay, people kept telling me that I am very intelligent, impressive, and that I have a lot of potential.

Sometimes, Mélène, with whom I spent a lot of time, would tell the people we met: “He is very good! Don't listen to him.”

I don't know, maybe this deserves another post, but now more than ever, I understand the importance of being surrounded by people who allow you to exist, who believe in you, who speak up for you when you don't, and who give you confidence. It changes a lot.

Since then, I have felt so much better. I know that I can achieve anything, that I can accomplish whatever I want as long as I give myself the means to do it.

What else can I say? I'm running out of words, haha.

I think that's all for today.
